Tyra Poindexter is a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in the State of Illinois, who has more than nine years’ experience in the funeral service industry, specializing in embalming, restorations, and removals. She is a member of the Illinois Funeral Directors Association (IFDA) and the Cook County Funeral Directors Association (CCFDA). She began her journey by actively serving as a funeral assistant in an Evanston, Illinois funeral home during her senior year of high school.
She attended Evanston Township High School where she was an honor student, an Evanston NAACP and Chessmen Unity Scholar. Upon graduating high school, she went on to attend Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Mortuary Science and Funeral Service. As a student at SIUC, Tyra was a member of the Dean’s List, Chair of Gamma Beta Phi National Honor Society, Chair of the College of Applied Sciences and Arts Diversity and Inclusivity Committee, Treasurer for Sigma Phi Sigma Business Organization, and a Residence Hall Assistant. Tyra received collegiate scholarships from the Egyptian Funeral Directors Association, Pettett Funeral Home, and Don Hertz Funeral Service.
Tyra started First Call Responders, Inc. d/b/a Poindexter Funeral Services, Inc. with the goal of creating a trustworthy relationship between funeral professionals and their client families by providing service with compassionate care. She provides reliable service. She is dedicated, patient, and honest. In her free time, Tyra enjoys writing, reading, listening to music, and participating in sports. She is known for her hard work, commitment, warm demeanor, positive mindset, and her sense of humor.
